One is Too Many: A Citizens’ Summit on Human Trafficking at the 2010 Olympics and Beyond Over the past year, the Citizens’ Summit on Human Trafficking at the 2010 Olympics and Beyond has developed a strong consensus between academics, women’s groups, faith communities, Aboriginal andcivil society organizations and front-line practitioners. While our backgrounds and fields of expertise differ, we are united on an agenda for change. Our position is firm: any form of coercion into prostitution is human trafficking. Here in Vancouver, women and youth face a significant risk from the depredations of traffickers and it is in the hands of all citizens to ensure they are free. The Summit's Declaration against Sex Slavery has already been endorsed by numerous elected officials and community groups. Comprising the effective prosecution of human traffickers, the protection of human trafficking victims and the prevention of human trafficking in every instance, the declaration underscores the need for an effective political and organizational will within all levels of government to improve current human trafficking policy and procedure. The following pages detail our organization's aims, accomplishments and future goals, as well as containing important background information to help you better familizarize yourself with the realities of human trafficking in Vancouver and Canada.
